Through a series of translated works, we know F. J. J. Buytendijk as a biologist, phenomenologist, and philosopher, whose work combines the ability for precise analysis and sound evaluation of objective research results with a clear awareness of differences in essence. The present work on human posture and movement represents an important contribution to so-called behavioral research. It is thus part of the scientific endeavors that arose from a need to complement the classical sciences of physiology and psychology, as these fields do not sufficiently address the living being in its true structural reality. The concrete phenomena that doctors, educators, and physical trainers encounter cannot be understood merely by the simple amalgamation of insights from those heterogeneous fields of knowledge.
