School shootings, colloquially referred to as rampages in schools, represent a rare but serious form of targeted violence in educational settings. This book first presents the causes discussed in current scientific research. In addition to characteristics of the perpetrators, it addresses the private and school environments, the influence of mass media, accessibility to firearms, and the consumption of violent media. Secondly, it outlines primary and secondary preventive measures such as profiling and threat assessment, as well as the phenomenon of leaking. Furthermore, this book focuses on post-incident care following school shootings, aimed at coping with experienced psychotraumatic stress. It discusses emergency psychological support, short- to medium-term trauma-focused interventions, and longer-term strategies.
