With the introduction of the AFG in 1969, active labor market policy in Germany was not only codified as an instrument of market equilibrium but was also introduced as an 'emancipatory project' within the social policy context of the Federal Republic. Since then, it has undergone a profound transformation in several stages, culminating in the most recent revision of its instruments and performance aspects. This volume offers an analysis of the fundamental principles of German labor market policy in 24 chapters, examining the individual subfields from the perspective of a changed fundamental logic, questioning the altered governance logics and the roles of the involved actors, and addressing the challenges that labor market policy must respond to in the future.
