The book documents the contributions of the international symposium "Assisted Suicide: The State of Science" held on June 15, 2015, in Berlin. It provides a unique overview of current empirical research on the topic, which has been largely ignored in the political debate and continues to be overlooked. It also includes transcripts of insightful pro-con debates between representatives of different positions from the fields of law, medicine, and ethics. At the end, there is a detailed commentary on the new law "on the criminalization of the commercial promotion of suicide" from legal, medical, and ethical perspectives. The authors and editors are internationally recognized experts from Germany and other countries where euthanasia and/or assisted suicide are legally regulated.
