With this book, I primarily address the listeners of my lectures as well as the students of engineering at technical universities. I want to demonstrate to them, through a series of new tasks mostly derived from technical practice, that even the average student—provided they approach the subject with genuine interest and eagerness to learn—need not fear the application of the relatively simple principles of mechanics to specific practical questions, which can certainly be challenging for beginners. In fact, it is precisely the intellectual difficulties that arise and must be overcome independently that create an engaging tension and a deeper interest beyond mere practical concerns, without which solving such seemingly interesting problems would become quite a dry affair.
