Daniel Hensel's study offers a completely new perspective on the development of tonality. In addition to simple statistical methods, specialized sound analysis visualizations were developed to represent the evolution of sound quality over time across entire groups of works. The aim was to determine how much the modes influence harmony, whether they statistically differ from one another, and whether they can thus prove their existence. To this end, the author, together with computer scientist Ingo Jache, developed the Palestrinizer. With this tool, he explored the possibilities of computer-assisted automated music analysis based on the relationship between mode and sound in 253 motets by Lassus and Palestrina.
