Product details

One of the most interesting tasks in translating the idea of an image into a computer-generated picture is the calculation of lighting. The simulation of light and shadow constitutes a significant part of the realistic effect of an artificially created image. This book addresses the topic through two approaches: ray tracing and the radiosity method. An introduction covers the necessary physical foundations of lighting calculation. Subsequently, both methods are presented and explored in detail. Programming language representations illustrate their implementation. The comparison of the two methods at various levels forms the focus of the content. They are compared in the classical measures of complexity theory through runtime measurements as well as through the subjective juxtaposition of the quality of the generated images.
