David Glauser examines the question of the causes of inequalities based on social background, gender, and migration background in educational decisions during the transition from compulsory schooling to vocational and general education training at the secondary level II in Switzerland. The results section includes a description of the decision-making process of the youth cohort that graduated in 2013. Additionally, it empirically tests central arguments of value-expectation theories and the influence of background effects in explaining socially unequal educational decisions.
