The purpose of this book is to provide a clear representation and in-depth justification of the operating behavior of synchronous machines during normal operation and in the event of disturbances. It is primarily aimed at engineers responsible for the planning, construction, and operation of electrical systems and drives, and is therefore tailored to practical applications. The appendix, which could also be referred to as Part 2 and is more theoretical in nature, broadens the target audience to include readers interested in a more precise derivation of the relationships involved. In the main section, the operating behavior of the synchronous machine is derived using physical considerations based on the phasor diagram, without significant mathematical effort, while allowing for certain simplifications that are permissible for large machines. For sudden load changes, a constant flux is initially assumed.
