The screw is the most commonly used machine element. Screw connections comprehensively address all influencing factors on the functional behavior of screw connections in various application areas. Since the publication of the 4th edition in 1988, the field has developed in many ways. These changes are reflected in the new edition: this particularly concerns the chapter on standardization as well as the calculations related to the updated VDI guideline 2230. Recent research findings can be found in the chapters on load capacity and temperature behavior, innovative surface protection measures in the chapter on corrosion, and novel devices and automated methods in the assembly chapter.
