Although steel containers have been lined with ceramic stones and mortar for many years, there is still no handbook or textbook for calculating such linings, despite the urgent demand for calculation guidelines in the industry. The excellent book by G. Thiel: Der Säurebau, earl Marhold, Halle 1951, has certainly contributed significantly to the understanding of the special nature of the lining problem. However, as the author himself states, he consciously refrained from in-depth scientific investigations because the development of acid construction was still ongoing. Today, however, after careful measurements of cookers by the pulp industry, particularly by Mr. Director Dr.-Ing. R. Haas, the presence of pre-stresses in the iron shell has been demonstrated.
