Since the adoption of the GDPR, data protection law is undergoing a transformation. This presents an opportunity to rethink the handling of data protection law. Simon Schwichtenberg develops a three-tiered universal concept that allows for the clarification of fundamental data protection legal disputes without neglecting central protective goals and fundamental values of data protection. He illustrates the concept using the example of connected cars, one of the most prominent instances of the Internet of Things.
