Acute cerebrovascular diseases, commonly referred to as strokes by both doctors and laypeople, are the third leading cause of death in industrialized countries and incur the highest follow-up costs among all disease groups. Despite this, they have received little attention in the past, as they are often viewed as a final and untreatable fateful event in life. This book highlights the concepts developed in the German-speaking world regarding the various disease patterns and the typical strategies for diagnosis and therapy used here, thereby distinguishing itself from Anglo-American literature. As such, it serves as a comprehensive standard work on the pathophysiology, clinic, diagnostics, and therapy of acute cerebrovascular diseases from a Central European perspective.
