Product details

Simone Seifert complements the predominantly psychological and psychiatric perspective on sexual offenses with a sociological viewpoint that relates to the whole of society. She demonstrates that the politically intended objective of the 1998 law aimed at combating sexual offenses and other dangerous crimes—a social therapy for incarcerated sexual offenders with a high risk of recidivism—is not sufficiently achieved. Sexual offenders are primarily treated with social therapy when they have, among other factors, a long sentence to serve, are motivated for therapy, and show insight into their offenses. Criteria such as prior offenses, existing prison experiences, or young age are hardly decisive for the transfer of sexual offenders to social therapeutic imprisonment.
