During my work at the Research Center for Die Forging at the Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology at the Technical University of Hanover, I encountered various issues related to die forging in collaboration with companies, during factory visits both domestically and abroad, and especially through my involvement in the Forging Committee of the VDI Specialist Group on Operational Technology. This allowed me the opportunity to contribute to the resolution of specific questions. From this perspective, following a suggestion from Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kienzle, the present document was drafted. It provides a comprehensive overview of the technical and economic significance of the die forging industry and outlines the tasks that need to be addressed in operations, research, and training in the near future to ensure that development keeps pace with the overall manufacturing evolution.
