Using the example of the debate on green genetic engineering, Birgit Freitag illustrates the power of language in the creation of knowledge about a controversial issue. She describes the strategies pursued by the actors to assert their position in the discourse, highlighting that it is not only the knowledge an actor conveys about a contentious matter that matters, but also, and particularly, the manner of communication that has a decisive influence on the knowledge that emerges about this issue.
