Books on a specific field usually represent a kind of balance sheet. The many individual and partial results that arise both from systematic research and practical operational insights, organized and clearly presented in the context of a holistic view, are to be depicted. Among the recently published comprehensive works on machinability, Leyen Setter's book focuses almost exclusively on turning, while a manual by Schallbroch addresses drillability and drilling machines. The workshop book by Krekelers, now in its third edition, provides a concentrated overview of the overall problem, in line with the intended scope for this book series. A book by Schallbroch and Bethmann on short testing methods, which was printed but could not be completed before the end of the war, has now been published.
