In the middle of 1989, the international standard "Office Document Architecture (ODA) and Interchange Format" was published by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) with the registration number ISO 8613. A substantially equivalent recommendation from CCITT (International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee) was adopted in the fall of 1988 in the T.410 series titled "Open Document Architecture (ODA) and Interchange Format." These standards were developed for the electronic exchange of documents that are captured in digital form. They primarily, but not exclusively, refer to documents typically created in an office environment, such as letters, memos, reports, contracts, or invoices. It is intended to ensure that the recipient receives such a document in the form intended by the sender.
