This interdisciplinary study is based on scientific findings regarding the natural self-cleaning processes of water resources. The author analyzes the extent to which environmental policy instruments, such as drainage fees, wastewater charges, water quality standards, or water pennies, are effective. The central question of the investigation is whether a production efficiency can be achieved through the wastewater charge and whether high-quality raw water has a positive scarcity price.
