This textbook motivates and explains the contents of descriptive and inductive statistics by connecting the mathematical foundations of statistics with a variety of easily understandable applications and examples. Through manageable examples that can (and should) be worked through with pen and paper, the reader first gains understanding and becomes proficient in using the central formulas. For larger examples, the freely available statistical software R is used, which performs calculations quickly and reliably even for large datasets.
