Andreas Neff demonstrates the excellent diagnostic and therapeutic options of endoscopy, which are indispensable for maxillofacial surgeons dealing with the complex anatomy of the oral, jaw, and facial region, particularly the sinuses and nasal passages, the temporomandibular joint, as well as the salivary glands. Minimal invasive visualization and access according to state-of-the-art standards require not only surgical expertise but also specialized technical equipment. While endoscopy in maxillofacial surgery is mostly reserved for specific indications, it has largely replaced many traditional direct or invasively open procedures in ENT. Similarly, maxillofacial surgery will increasingly experience paradigm shifts in treatment strategies, akin to its neighboring disciplines, which it must embrace to continue evolving on equal footing in the future.
