Product details
Jessica Bossems has developed a completely new method for testing spontaneous color preferences in bees and has successfully tested it in the field with stingless bees in Brazil and under laboratory conditions with bumblebees in Germany. Bees are among the most important pollinators of flowering plants, with their detection of flowers often relying on visual signals such as flower size, shape, and color. The behavioral color choice experiments conducted by the author with stingless bees and bumblebees demonstrate that bees prefer certain colors over others and respond differently to the color attributes of wavelength, color purity, and color intensity. Flowering plants utilize these color preferences to specifically attract certain pollinators while deterring others from visiting the flowers.
