Very short product life cycles and a significant price decline require high-tech companies to have a rapid pace of innovation. This results in a continuous need for change in products and production processes. Therefore, semiconductor factories are almost exclusively organized according to the function principle, which, while offering high flexibility, leads to high inventories, long lead times, and low adherence to deadlines. Sophia Keil demonstrates how a five-step planning method can facilitate the transition of production systems towards flow orientation. The application of this method in corporate practice showed potential for lead time reduction in the range of 40-50 percent.
