In this dissertation, Mechthild Löwenstein presents an innovative learning portfolio as a central element for transforming teaching and learning, which she developed within nursing education. The introduction of learning portfolios enables the observation of the learning process and its connection to learning outcomes. Throughout the entire learning process, reflections are systematically guided through questions. This allows for the parallel observation and assessment of professional and learning competencies. In the learning counseling, as a supportive element of the learning portfolio, an appropriate balance between self-regulation and external regulation promotes self-directed learning. Following a Design-Based Research approach, the development and research process demonstrates that educators can successfully explore new paths together with learners.
