Based on her conversations with 21 female partners and principals from the ten largest management consulting firms, Laura Sophie Dornheim analyzes the role of gender in the careers of female consultants. Gender is examined from a constructivist perspective. Of particular interest is the "Doing Gender" of the consultants and the role that consulting firms and the surrounding environment play in this context. The results clearly show that the gender of consultants is far from irrelevant; on the contrary, gender holds a cultural and structuring significance in this industry that is markedly stronger than in everyday society.
