Michael Fürstenberg examines in this study, based on a rationalist theoretical framework, the influence that external and cross-border actors have on the resolution of civil wars. He develops a process-oriented model of conflict resolution based on bargaining theory and analyzes the impact of transnational factors using quantitative analysis tools, drawing on extensive data on armed conflicts from 1975 to 2010. Overall, it shows that these factors play a significant role in the creation and stabilization of peace in crisis regions, although a precise differentiation is important.
