Product details

Meltem Kulaçatan focuses on the gender relations in the media public sphere, which she examines based on the press discourse of the European editions of the Turkish daily newspapers Hürriyet and Zaman. Drawing from the German-speaking majority public, the public in Turkey, and the Turkish-speaking sub-public in Germany, the author analyzes the spatial and content-related discursive interconnections through the lens of gender discourse. In the gender relations of the Turkish-language daily newspapers, one can observe discursive entanglements that are closely intertwined with politics in Turkey. At the same time, the press discourse on the negotiated gender relations is interwoven with both the integration discourse and the political discourse in Germany, as evidenced by the reporting on women from Turkey.
