Product details
Sophia Becker investigates in her empirical study whether technical improvements in car efficiency lead consumers to purchase larger vehicles, travel longer distances, or drive faster. The results show that such rebound behavior occurs only in very specific contexts and motivational situations. Overall, the efficiency gains have a facilitating effect, but no causal impact on increases in demand. Through its behavioral theoretical framework and empirical foundation, the study makes an important contribution to social-ecological rebound research.
