This dissertation explores the topic of inter-organizational knowledge transfer between research institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The aim is to develop a system-oriented transfer model that takes into account the transfer object, transfer partners, transfer intermediaries, transfer process, and transfer environment, as well as to analyze external knowledge transfer as a contribution to internal innovation activities. A two-stage research design was chosen to address the research questions.
