The previous debates on intersectionality have shown that a context-independent definition of intersectionality cannot be provided. Furthermore, the ongoing interest in this debate attests to the need for a critical reflection tool for inequality and difference in science and politics. So what is the relationship between intersectionality and critique, or can intersectionality be critical? This volume addresses the question in three ways: First, intersectionality is analyzed in the tension between scientific and political practices. Second, intersectionality is presented as a methodological reflection, meaning as a critique of conventional methods in the respective disciplines. Third, approaches are discussed that make intersectionality a critical tool for reflecting on history and society.
