Alexander Schütz introduces a systems-theoretical perspective on IT architectures, whose increasing complexity continually presents challenges for companies. The author examines how this complexity arises and which mechanisms favor "unnecessary" complexity. The approach presented in the study for quantifying complexity enables assessment and management. At the same time, the ability to quantify forms the basis for the development of information systems that assist decision-makers in managing complexity.
