Europeanization promotes constructive conflict resolution - this is the premise of the present publication. But does this also apply to states on the EU's borders? While research has primarily focused on member states so far, the author here turns to the EU periphery and analyzes the status conflict between Kosovo and Serbia. To this end, an innovative, theory-driven analytical framework called the "Hexagon of European Conflict Resolution Culture" is introduced, which is based on six variables: compromise orientation, cooperation of the conflict parties with the EU and international actors, recognition of negotiating partners, non-violence, and economic relations. The book provides an overview of Kosovo's conflict history, starting from the early 20th century, before examining the negotiations regarding Kosovo's future status using the Hexagon.
