The plan for this work was conceived in 1946 in the form of a "Outline of Histology" to address the pressing shortage of books for our students. I was unable to meet the demands of both science and teaching in such an outline. Thus, with the kind consent of the publisher, this textbook has been created. Due to the exceptional density of the peripheral nerve network, it is quite conceivable that the nervous system influences every tissue and organ function. Therefore, I have treated nervous tissue in somewhat more detail than is done in most histology textbooks. Within the organism, cell and tissue function depend on the nervous and vascular systems, and their normal or pathological performance must always be related to the overall organism, to the "whole." Today, one can consider the body cell.
