An ideal introduction for computer science students into mathematics, as each chapter begins with concrete terms or situations familiar to the reader. From there, it gradually abstracts to the common abstract concepts of modern mathematics. Each chapter describes many interesting everyday situations where the previously introduced abstract terms and proven results come into play. Applications that have a close connection to computer science are addressed, including route planning, Google search, cryptography, coding theory, data compression, hash tables, and Sudoku. The three parts of the book: Algebra, Analysis, and Discrete Structures, which are largely independent of each other, are designed so that they can essentially be understood individually. The inclusion of solutions to all exercise problems facilitates understanding.
