Claudia Wittich is conducting an intervention study with a targeted, integrated instructional support to assist students in transitioning away from counting-based calculations and in developing sustainable and advanced strategies. To this end, she is developing and testing a software-based diagnostic tool that can reliably capture the use of counting strategies in mental arithmetic, and ultimately empirically evaluates the effectiveness of cooperatively structured learning processes in mathematics instruction.
