Product details

The present work addresses the part of mathematical geodesy in which the shape of the Earth is assumed to be a slightly flattened ellipsoid with known dimensions, referred to as a spheroid. In contrast to "lower geodesy," where parts of the Earth's surface are approximated by a plane or sphere, this is referred to as "higher geodesy." Its subjects include - in a geometric sequence - the description of the locations of points on the spheroid through coordinates, the geodetic line, the geodetic triangle, and the chains and networks formed from these. Accordingly, the work is structured as follows: The first part contains a uniformly organized presentation of the conformal mapping of the spheroid onto a sphere and a plane, thereby deriving flat, rectangular, conformal point coordinates. Special emphasis is placed on the study of spheroid mapping.
