Product details

Cristina Besio discusses how organizations handle morality. Although organizations often engage in intensive moral communication, morality rarely serves as a guiding principle there. In four essays, the author describes and clarifies how companies and non-profit organizations selectively perceive moral imperatives and re-specify them in forms (e.g., in codes of conduct) that they can leverage in their decision-making processes. As a result, morality has an ambiguous function: on one hand, it can trigger a legitimizing effect, while on the other hand, its high critical potential can highlight existing problems. Morality particularly impacts innovation processes - whether it acts as a hindrance or a facilitator depends on organizational circumstances.
