Neurophysiological examination methods are playing an increasingly important role in intensive care medicine. In addition to the established EEG recordings, this book provides a detailed presentation of the applications of acoustically, visually, somatosensory, and motorically evoked potentials, along with exemplary findings. The section on ultrasound diagnostics includes Doppler sonography of the extracranial brain-supplying arteries, duplex scanning, and transcranial Doppler sonography. Finally, the procedures necessary for the rapid detection of neuromuscular diseases, such as electromyography and neurography, are discussed. For all examination methods, the specific conditions of the intensive care unit are taken into account, and the authors always consider the significance of the various methods from the perspective of intensive neurology.
