Panic disorder is one of the most common mental illnesses. Many scientific studies focus on this condition. In the medical database MEDLINE, there are over 6000 entries under the terms "panic" and "agoraphobia." This book attempts to review the large number of scientific findings and provide a comprehensive representation of the clinical picture. What role do early childhood traumas, parental interaction behaviors, learning experiences, heredity, and neurobiology play in the development of pathological anxiety and panic? In this book, a new neurobiological-psychosocial model for the emergence of panic attacks and agoraphobia is developed, aiming to integrate the multitude of sometimes contradictory findings on this topic.
