Product details

The book "Philosophy and Religion in German Idealism" contains the selected proceedings of a conference on religion in German idealism that took place in January 2000 in Nijmegen, Netherlands. Organized by the Center for German Idealism, which coordinates research on classical German philosophy in the Netherlands and Belgium, it provides deep insights into the complex relationship between philosophy and religion in this tradition of thought. The conference was generously supported by the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research. This publication is dedicated to the memory of Ludwig, the founding father of the center, whose passing delayed the release of the proceedings. The studies in this book demonstrate the close connection between philosophy and religion in German idealism, characterized by both affirmation and tensions and conflicts. Idealism expresses a certain affirmation of the autonomy of philosophical reason, while also acknowledging the significance of religion.
