Dysphagia, as an interdisciplinary problem, has not yet been systematically addressed due to the inherent overlaps between specialties. The methods presented in this book allow for differential diagnosis and differential therapy of dysphagia, globus pharyngeus, and particularly aspiration pneumonia, which is becoming increasingly significant in the context of an aging population. Introductory chapters provide a detailed overview of the anatomy and physiology of the swallowing process. The following chapters introduce benign functional disorders and previously difficult-to-capture morphological disorders within a framework of pharyngo-esophageal interaction. Symptom complexes ranging from globus pharyngeus to benign dysphagia and severely neurologically impaired patients with aspiration are discussed, along with a detailed differential diagnosis.
