The German S3 guideline for the treatment of anxiety disorders (panic disorder/agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, specific phobia) in adults was developed with the consultation and moderation of the Association of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF) by a panel that includes 20 professional associations and other organizations from the fields of psychotherapy, psychology, psychosomatic medicine, psychiatry, and general medicine, as well as patient representatives and self-help organizations. The recommendations of this guideline are based on a review of the evidence from available randomized clinical trials on anxiety disorders according to ICD/DSM and a synthesis of the recommendations from other guidelines. Due to a large database of over 400 clinical studies, this guideline provides concrete and evidence-based recommendations for treatment.
