Product details

The author examines maritime private law in relation to the question of how potential disputes fit into the system of unified European procedural law, namely the Council Regulation on jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters (Brussels I Regulation), as the most important secondary legal instrument. He analyzes which jurisdictions under the Brussels I Regulation are available for the respective disputes and what specific maritime procedural issues arise. The focus is on maritime transport and maritime labor law. This is due, on the one hand, to the practical relevance of these areas of law and the decisions of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) related to them. On the other hand, these two areas are particularly suitable for illustrating general questions, especially the interplay of maritime law.
