How will we learn professionally and in the workplace in ten years? In what ways will we utilize the diverse new possibilities of learning technology and social learning on the web that are already emerging today? In the next ten years, computers will become active learning partners that facilitate and tutor competency development processes. Three trends are particularly significant: the development of semantic networks within competency development processes, the increasing integration of cloud computing into corporate learning systems, and the use of increasingly powerful humanoid computers as tandem partners in self-organized competency building. The authors analyze these developments, derive trends for future learning, and propose applications for competency development with the learning partner computer.
