Few social actors are attributed such significance for achieving the goals of sustainable development as companies. Sustainable development aims for a lasting global coexistence, where the economy, society, and natural environment are to be harmonized. Companies are in constant interaction with ecology and society, as they rely on these factors in their value creation activities. Therefore, they are certainly co-responsible for a large part of the global environmental and development issues. However, companies in a market economy represent activities aimed at generating profits in the form of monetary income. In this context, the social and ecological goals associated with sustainability cannot replace the formal objective of profit generation.
