Michael Temmler demonstrates that a combustion optimization suitable for control units is effective. Physical modeling approaches are used to represent engine behavior. The combination of combustion, emissions, and charge exchange models, along with nonlinear optimization methods, allows for the customization of engine control for each internal combustion engine during its operation. A new control unit architecture supports the replacement of the central engine control with a system of decentralized encapsulated units that include the combustion optimization.
