One of the worst aspects of our current period of development in medicine is that the historical knowledge of things diminishes with each generation of students. Even among independent younger workers, it can generally be assumed that their knowledge only extends back 3-5 years at most. What was published a few years ago no longer exists. The further the milestones of medical sciences are pushed apart year by year, the more justified the question becomes: Is it possible for the practicing physician to keep up with the advancements of science? If the young doctor has graduated from university with the firm intention of remaining eternally loyal to science and has entered the early years of practice, it won’t be long before he finds himself almost unnoticed at a crossroads.
