The study presents existing and potential new approaches for quantifying the fiscal significance of sports (sport-related benefit and cost categories of public budgets) for the first time, supported by figures. In summary, according to our calculations, depending on the definition used (core, narrow, broad definition of sports), in 2010, sport-related direct revenues amounted to approximately €3.479 billion, €14.655 billion, and €22.171 billion, while sport-related costs were around €5.829 billion and €9.895 billion.
