The use of cutting fluids in machining processes is associated with significant costs and challenges related to preventing health hazards and environmental impacts. However, a complete abandonment of cutting fluids would lead to losses in performance and safety during machining operations. This issue has prompted various activities in both science and practice in recent years. Fundamental insights into the complex relationships of the tribological system "machining" have been developed, along with practical solutions for dry machining. Since a complete abandonment is currently not feasible for many machining processes, minimal quantity lubrication is often sought as a compromise. The general high interest in "dry machining" and "minimal quantity lubrication" has led to the creation of this book.
