The introduction of environmental management systems in research and development within the chemical industry plays a key role in establishing integrated environmental protection in production. This area significantly determines the extent of current and future environmental impacts of the chemical industry. The authors demonstrate how the establishment of environmental management systems can continuously improve the relationship between additive and production-integrated environmental protection. The methodological support for decision-making through the integration of environmental protection criteria is central to this approach. Numerous methods and tools are presented that can be integrated into the research and development process as part of environmental management.
